Camping in Wales

Ynysfaen CAMPING

Camping in Wales at Ynysfaen

We’re a small family-run campsite just two miles from Trecastle and 20 minutes west of Brecon in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park, which has recently been designated one of the five Dark Skies Reserves in the World. Our lovely old farmhouse is set in 5 acres. To call it ‘beautiful’ is an understatement – but we would say that, we live here!

Chickens, owls, kingfishers, red kites, bats and otters. Just a few of the creatures we share our land with. As such, we do all we can to keep it looking nice for them and for you when camping in Wales.

YNYSFAEN CAMPING

Peace & Tranquility when camping in Wales at Ynysfaen

Ynysfaen is all about peace and tranquility – a base-camp to explore and enjoy mother nature doing what she does best. We are a prime location for a digital detox and rural retreat – there is no mobile phone signal or wifi which helps you to switch off!

We’re not into late nights so we have a ‘no noise policy’ after 10.00pm. On the other hand, we love early mornings – and waking up to the sounds of the babbling River Usk, the dawn chorus, the clucking of chickens and the gentle bleating of sheep & lambs. If you share this sentiment, then you should really enjoy camping in Wales at Ynysfaen.

Brecon Beacons

A beautiful place to explore

Whether you’re looking for adventure or simply wishing to take a relaxing walk in the stunning countryside, the Brecon Beacons with its highest mountain Pen y Fan has it all when camping in Wales at Ynysfaen. Read more below.

We offer something a little different when camping in Wales at Ynysfaen…

We like to think we’re a little different from most other campsites in the area. Here’s why…

Camping, not caravanning

Tents and trailer tents are welcome. Trailer tents can pitch on one of our hardstanding small camper / electric camping pitches and cannot be towed onto the camping field. Sorry, no large motor homes or caravans. Small size campers are permitted on our 4 purpose built pitches and one secluded electric hook up tent camping pitch (see size restrictions!) access is impossible for large motorhomes.

Canvas, not cars

No vehicles are allowed on the camping field making it a safe haven for children to play safely. There are wheelbarrows to cart stuff to your pitch, and if you need a hand, just holler!

Quality, not quantity

We love sardines, but only on toast. So you’ll have plenty of room to pitch your tent and you decide where you want to pitch, we don’t allocate pitches.

Seclusion, not isolation

For £5, we provide fire pits, logs and kindling for those chilly evenings or just to toast marshmallows and stargaze. We can also provide a BBQ with a bucket of charcoal for £5.

Please be advised that we are only able to take any payments in cash while on site. We would also like to request that you purchase our logs and kindling because we know it is seasoned and dried so hopefully not too much smoke!

Simplicity, and luxury

We have a modern unisex, heated shower and toilet block (3 showers and 3 toilets), along with a covered washing up area with two sinks. The washing up area has hot and cold water, washing up utensils and ECOVER products are supplied for your use. We have a food prep area with mild sterilising products for your use to ensure cleanliness.

We also have an American style fridge freezer for your use that also supplies ice for those evening drinks around the fire. We have outdoor games for you to use if you’re feeling energetic or indoor games for the less energetic or indeed those rainy days. A large selection of books for you to borrow or swap for adults and children, utensils to borrow if you’ve forgotten something and our “whoops I forgot” cabinet where you can purchase a small selection of toiletries.

Our Shepherds Hut, Cabin and small camper van pitches offer a slice of extra luxury for your escape.  We can also offer a 5 mtr bell tent to rent with coir matting so you just need to turn up with your own camping items and move in. We also have a small riverside walk where you can sit and listen to the babbling river Usk and the birds singing.

Basics, not banquets

There’s no shop, but you can buy free range eggs laid by our own Warren chickens and sometimes even seasonal homegrown veg, when available.
